The Formors, also known as the Formorians are the ancient race of people described as being the authors of the Emigre Manuscript.
Very little is known of them, but what is known is that they perfected the use of the manuscript and possessed the power to bring the dead back from beyond the grave. Roger comments that the resurrected dead were forced to work in a manner akin to that of golems in Jewish lore; without rest or food.
The fate of the race is not known, though Roger speculates that the race and their society, just "fell apart" and then they just simply vanished into legend.
It has a vaguely human figure, though it is much larger than any normal person, and has the head of a goat. It has various facial piercings and is dressed in a massive cloak.
Perhaps not unintentionally, it resembles the picture of "Baphomet" as illustrated by occult artist, Eliphas Lévi. However, there are ancient texts such as the Lebor na hUidre, ("The Book of the Dun Cow") in which the Formors are said to have: "the body of a man and the head of a goat".
Despite being mentioned only briefly in Koudelka, they have had a lasting impact on the series mostly through their creation of the Emigre Manuscript, and all the subsequent attempts at human resurrection, as they passed down the information to the celtic druids.
Quite possibly they may have also built Neam Ruins. The only other confirmed item left behind by the Formors, was a massive cauldron that was used in the Koudelka Manga, in yet another attempt to raise the dead.
The Formors come from Irish mythology, and were a semi-divine race who inhabited Ireland in ancient times. They may have once been believed to be the beings who preceded the gods, similar to the Greek Titans. In another similarity to the Titans, the Formors were eventually defeated by the newer gods, the Tuatha Dé Danann, who drove them out to sea. It is believed that represented the gods of chaos and wild nature.
