Bio
Edit
Roger Bacon enrolled in Oxford and was taught by Robert Grosseteste whom he believed lacked wisdom, but had a good heart. After graduating he began making numerous books of natural science. It was during this time he transcribed the Emigre Manuscript for the Pope. The process took him 5 years to complete during this time Bacon used the script to gain immortality in order to pass his knowledge on to future generations. After completing the ritual he errased it from the manuscript so it could not be abused by others, upon his completion he was sentenced to death by the Vatican in order to keep knowledge of the document secret. Bacon managed to escape from the Vatican retaining a full knowlege of the text,. Following this it seems he begain to take on apprentices to share his knowledge with.

- It has become a running gag in the series that the player has the opportunity to rename Roger whenever the party first meets him (even if his name has already been established). This was first introduced in the original Shadow Hearts, when all six members of the playable party could be renamed. This continued on into Covenant and From the New World, where a similar naming screen appears, despite the fact that characters could not be renamed in either of those games. In all cases, Roger will immediately dismiss whatever the player has named him.
- In Shadow Hearts, he also breaks the fourth wall on how we could name him.
- In the series Roger is always in need of a suggestive, and occasionally banned magazine. One of these magazines, The N.Y. Heaven, is the sole reason why he traveled to America in the third game.
- Roger Bacon was a excellent philosopher and Franciscan friar. Most of his past life is canocial to Shadow Hearts. He did study under Oxford at age 13, after his studies he studied in Paris then became a Francisan Friair. But disliked his position due to not having a teaching post and the his activties restricted by the Francisan Friar of publishing pamphlets and books without specific approval. It was then he became friends with a certain cardinal which soon became the new Pope. It was then he issueded Roger Bacon to write him concerning with philosophy within theology. It was then he sent the Pope his Opus Majus, which presented views of how philosophy of Aristotle and the new science could be incorporated into a new theology. Other works were Opus minus, De Multiplication Specierum, and other possible works of on alchemy and astrology. After the Pope died in 1268, Roger Bacon was placed under house arrest by Jerome of Ascoli, the minister general of the Francisan Friar in 1277 or 1279, possible to the Condemnaions of 1277, which banned the teaching of certian philosophy doctrines, including deterministic astrology, Somtime after he returned to the Franciscan House at Oxford where he continued his studies. It is rumored that he made the Voynich Manuscript.
- Roger is the only character to apear in every game in the series including Koudelka.
- It is notable that Roger has a different voice acter in every game.
