EtymologyEdit

The name derives from the chalk figure, known as the Cerne Abbas Giant, or the "Rude Man", carved into the Dorset countryside. Supposedly it is ancient in origins, however, it is now thought to have been created in the 18th century.
Regardless of that fact, the figure is an important part of the folklore of that part of England, as well as being a symbol of fertility, due to its prominant phallus.
There is a folk-belief that having sexual intercourse on the phallus, increases the chance of fertility.
