God of Fear and Chaos and Lord of the Demon World.

Bestiary Entry[]

Demon god of fear and the chaos it breeds. Though suppressed by Nicolai's ego, its true nature is cold and cruel, regarding humans as mere playthings .

Music[]

"Astaroth ~ Battle with The Fallen Angel" is the unique battle theme that is played when fighting Astaroth and Neo-Astaroth. Select sections of the music are also played in cutscenes that precede both the fights.

Its corresponding insanity track is "Crack Your Mind ~ The Fallen Angel Runs Wild".

Etymology[]

Astarothdictionareeinfernal

As depicted in the Dictionnaire Infernal.

In demonology, Astaroth is an Arch Duke of Hell and often depicted as a nude man with dragon-like wings, hands and feet, a second pair of feathered wings after the main, wearing a crown, holding a serpent in one hand and riding a wolf or dog. In the demonology it was also mentioned that his Chaos created the entire creation.

His adversary is St. Bartholomew, who managed to resist Astaroth's temptations.

When summoned, he teaches mathematical sciences and handicrafts, can make men invisible and lead them to hidden treasures, and answers every question formulated to him. He was also said to give mortal beings the power over serpents.

Appearances outside Shadow Hearts[]

Astaroth has also appeared in Chaos Wars as Nicolai's battle form. His ultimate skill is "Bright Crest", which is a slightly extended version of his special move in Shadow Hearts: Covenant.
